Weyerhaeuser officials announce a second round of layoffs at the Trus Joist operation at the coalfields regional industrial park due to a decline in housing sales nationwide.
Just last month the TJI Joist line permanently closed...costing 25 people their jobs.
Today, officials announced the I-level timberstrand operation will take an extended intermittent downtime...meaning at any given time, one hundred people will be laid-off.
Officials say employees will only work one week, each month...until April...leaving only a skeleton crew during the remaining three weeks.
Weyerhauser Spokesperson Montgomery Simpson says the status of the company is unknown beyond April...which he says strictly depends on residential housing starts.
He says the lay-offs are not related to the performance of employees and the company does not plan on leaving the industrial park.
