An Operation UNITE drug bust in Martin County leaves ten people in custody, including one man who says he hopes his arrest will change his life.

"There are a lot of things I'd change in my life and I now regret that I can't change them," said John Childers who was arrested on drug charges.

25 year old Childers says that before his arrest Wednesday, Operation UNITE was a bad word to admitted drug abusers like himself.

"The way they do their job, when someone hears UNITE, it's worse than cop," Childers said.

UNITE officials say they take that as a compliment they're doing their job, but that their main focus is on more than arrests, it's on changing lives.

"The fact they've been arrested is not necessarily a bad thing for them. It's an opportunity to recognize where they are today, and it's a great opportunity for them to change," said Paul Hays with UNITE.

That's why Childers says even though he couldn't physically stop taking pills, he had been asking for this arrest to get him out of a bad place and hopefully put him on a path to where he says he belongs.

"Get me away from everyone I know, get me away from all the drugs and I could change my life around in there," Childers said. "I got two babies. I got two beautiful babies. I'd turn my life around in a heartbeat. I've got a family. It's time for me to grow up and be a family."

And maybe at the age of 25, John Childers has grown up for his children and for himself.

Operation UNITE was assisted by the Martin County Sheriff's Department and Inez City Police in Wednesday's roundup.
