Man Recovering After Mining Accident

An Eastern Kentucky miner is recovering after an accident Thursday morning.

State mining officials say it happened at the Blue Diamond Coal Company Mine Number 74 in Perry County. They say 43 year old Samuel H. Melton of Wooten in Leslie County was installing a ventilation curtain when a piece of draw rock fell from between roof bolts and hit him in the head. Officials say Melton was flown to Holston Valley Hospital in Tennessee.

Officials say the mine has been closed for the investigation.

This is the first mine accident reported this year.
