A Pike County man charged with murder is not accepting a plea agreement because of a new federal indictment against him.
Arthur "Artie" Adkins of Ashcamp was going to take a plea deal Friday and a recommended 10-year sentence for charges related to the 2005 murder of Gregory Fleming.
However, a new federal indictment charges Adkins with possession of an unregistered machine gun.
His Public Defender now says a guilty plea in state court could be taken as an admission of guilt in a federal case.
Adkins charges in state court include murder, robbery, and tampering with evidence.
He is accused of shooting Fleming then burning his body.
