Gubernatorial Candidate Attempting To Make History

One of the newest candidates for governor is attempting to make history in her campaign.

The Lexington Herald Leader reports Anne Northup is the first gubernatorial candidate attempting to unseat their own party's incumbent in a primary election campaign with a specific message that the incumbent cannot win re-election. The Herald Leader says that's never been attempted or accomplished since election laws were changed to let governors run for two straight terms.

Northup and her running mate Jeff Hoover say a key goal in their campaign will be bridging the gap between urban and rural areas of the state.
