UK To Increase Tuition, Offer New Scholarships

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Students at the University of Kentucky
will be paying more for their education next year. They'll also
have new scholarship opportunities. The Board of Trustees today
approved a nine percent tuition and fee increase for in-state
students next year. The increase for out-of-state students would be
lower. President Lee Todd says the hike is necessary to help put
the university into top-20 research institution status by the year
2010.
Also today Todd announced that around 15-hundred students will
receive new scholarships in the fall. The initiative will cost
almost three million next year and grows to nearly six million by
2011.
