State government officials say each year the commonwealth spends billions of dollars on preventative health care problems.
Now Governor Fletcher is traveling across the state to promote healthy living.
We've all heard the statistics that smoking, obesity, and many illness rates are high across the bluegrass, but rarely do we address what to do about the problem.
Governor Fletcher says Wednesday's forum is designed to brainstorm with community members on how to put a stop to what he calls a health epedemic.
Governor Fletcher says his "Get Healthy Kentucky" campaign is a challenge for communities to come together.
"There's a lot of organizations that are already doing somethings in health care and wellness we've just got to bring them together," Governor Fletcher said.
People in Johnson County agree but many say the key component they want to see in this campaign includes bringing a better health and fitness program to Kentucky's schools.
Governor Fletcher says after Wednesday's forum and the input he's received from community members, he will re-visit plans for structured wellness programs in schools but he says the challenge will be to find an appropriate balance between academics and physical activity.
