Many classrooms across Eastern Kentucky were empty again Thursday because of illness.
Several school systems have called school off because too many students are sick. School administrators say while they want to give students a chance to feel better, they also consider state funding which they can lose for every student that's not at school.
"The higher percentage we have in attendance, The more money we receive from the state which would hopefully reduce the local tax burden if we have needs that aren't met." says John Chadwell of Middlesboro Independent Schools.
Officials at the Middlesboro Independent School System say they're lucky they haven't been hit with too many absences due to illness so far.
