JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. - American Commercial Lines Inc. has pitched a plan that would raise employee wages and hire 400 people this year.
The company said Tuesday it plans to increase wage rates for hourly production and maintenance employees by about 11 percent. Certified welders could see an increase of more than 15 percent, according to a statement from the company.
American Commercial presented the plan to General Drivers, Warehousemen & Helpers Local Union No. 89 as part of a new labor agreement the two sides are negotiating for the company's plant in Jeffersonville, five miles north of Louisville, Ky.
The company also stated that it will need to hire more than 400 employees this year.
American Commercial is a marine transportation and service company that operates a fleet of 3,714 barges.
