Dozens of college students rallied in Frankfort Wednesday over the high tuition.
Some students say they've gone from taking out two thousand dollar loans last year to five thousand dollars loans this year to cover college costs. Governor Fletcher says he is proposing 25 million dollars in tuition assistance. Some students say it will take them more than 10 years to pay off their loans.
"It's very intimidating to know that when you start out your career, you're starting out with all this debt. You have to work hard just to break even," said UK student Blaine Thomas.
Governor Fletcher says the tuition assistance plan would be paid for through the state's four hundred million dollar surplus.
