Hundreds Paying Final Respects To Hazard Businessman

Hundreds of people are paying their final respects to a well known Hazard businessman and civic leader. The visitation service for Doctor Vernon Cooper began Friday night.

Because of his love for Hazard and Hazard High School, Cooper told loved ones he wanted his funeral services at the high school. Cooper was the president of People's Bank in Hazard for many years and served on numerous boards throughout the community.

"He came back to Hazard after his naval service and after college and such a supporter of education," said Vernon’s daughter, Nancy Cooper Terry.

Cooper was also known for his numerous acts of generosity.

The visitation will continue until 8 o'clock Friday night. The funeral for Cooper will be 11am Saturday at Hazard High School.
