City police say they were called to Roy G. Eversole Middle School after school officials heard a student had a knife. Police searched the student's locker and found a pocket knife inside. Police say pocket knives are not considered deadly weapons, so school officials are handling the incident themselves. Police say they're planning more patrols.
"Our resource officers and other officers along with the school systems will start random locker searches," Sgt. James East.
School officials say the student was suspended.
Police say they take all school threats seriously, and warn that students who bring weapons to school will face harsh punishments.
