The head of the state republican party has quit.
Mountain News has learned chairman Darrell Brock told Governor Fletcher late Friday that he's leaving.
Brock made news when he refused the governor's request that he quit during the merit hiring scandal.
Party leaders later refused to remove Brock, the first clear signal of a rift in the party between the governor and some leaders.
No word on who might replace Brock.
He apparently is taking a job in the private sector.
