Several Pike County Roads Declared Dangerous

Pike County officials have declared three different roads dangerous and even potentially deadly because of rock slides.

Pike County officials say rocks have been sliding off of cliffs more and more in three high traffic locations, near the Bypass Road and Town Mountain intersection, on Bypass Road near Chloe Road, and also on 80 near Breaks Interstate Park. Officials say they're worried one day a huge piece of rock will fall on a car, so they're asking state officials to put up barriers to protect drivers below.

"Some of those are as large as an 18 wheeler truck. If they come off the hill, it would just crush anything under them. It's so dangerous," said Pike County Judge Executive Wayne T. Rutherford.

"It will keep a lot of the rock from falling into the shoulder of the road. Stabilizing it more and it won't be such a sheer cliff," said Pike County Road Deputy Commissioner Donnie Johnson.

The fiscal court passed a resolution saying these three locations are considered dangerous.
