It's Valentine's Day which can mean everything from flowers to chocolate to cards. WYMT's Jon Sonnheim went out looking for love and ended up finding 60 years of love in one couple.
With a Valentine's Day flag proudly blowing outside sits a special house with a special couple married for more than 60 years.
"I saw her one night at the restaurant where her aunt owned it, and I asked to take her home," said Charles Meade.
"Well, I was in seventh heaven and of course he did, he walked me home that night," Barbara Meade said.
That was in 1944 when both were in high school and the love affair that developed between Charles and Barbara Meade stood the test of time and war. Shortly after graduation, Charles joined the Navy.
"I was so homesick for him. It was really miserable while he was gone," Barbara said.
"Oh yes, I never forgot home," Charles said.
When he did return home, the two quickly married. They built themselves a family and through sickness and health, these two were there for each other. 60 years came and went and these two became one.
"She's my girlfriend, my wife, my sweetheart. She's all that put together," Charles said.
"He's the one I loved then, and I'll love him the rest of my life," Barbara said.
The couple's 61st anniversary will be this August.
