BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Investigators say they still aren't able
to pinpoint the cause of last month's fatal explosion at a Raleigh
County convenience store.
Chemical Safety Board investigator Jeff Wanko says investigators
have secured the two propane tanks that were at the store but
neither show signs of obvious cracks or ruptures.
The explosion at the Ghent Little General Store occurred on
January 30th as workmen were preparing to switch out propane tanks.
Two employees with Appalachian Heating reported that one of the
tanks started leaking and they could not stop the escaping propane.
Emergency crews were called, but the propane exploded, killing the
two workers and two emergency responders.
Wanko says the tanks and their components will be tested to
determine why the leak occurred and why it couldn't be stopped.
Investigators have yet to interview the five people who were
injured in the blast. Wanko says those interviews will occur when
the five are physically able.
