Widows Of Comair Crash Victims Seek Change In Law On Recovering Damages

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Sarah Fortney and Kathy Ryan share in the tragic loss of their husbands during the August crash of Comair Flight 5191.

Today, they shared their grief with a legislative panel, hoping for a change in the state law dealing with what spouses can recover after the death of their loved one.

Currently, spouses who bring a wrongful death lawsuit in Kentucky are limited to collect damages based on their mates' approximate loss of income. A measure before the House would allow surviving spouses to bring additional causes of action to recover damages on the loss of their companionship through marriage.

The legislation is House Bill 403.
