Published reports are questioning who cast votes for State Representative Brandon Smith during last week's general assembly, but the 84th District Republican says the reports are inaccurate.
Reports in the Louisville Courier Journal accuse Brandon Smith of leaving the house floor while an intern sat in his seat and cast votes for him. Representative Smith says he sent more than 20 photos to the Courier Journal last week, showing other people sitting in house seats participating in the voting process. He claims he was within eyesight of his intern during the votes and he says having guest voters on the floor is within house rules.
"I took the pictures Friday morning because it is a wonderful experience in Frankfort. For many members down there, I'd say 85 to 95 percent of members bring somebody down there with them to do that," Smith said.
Our attempts to reach other house members quoted in the report were unsuccessful. Representative Smith says he doesn't understand why he is being questioned and thinks the report is politically motivated.
Do you think representatives should be able to allow other people to vote for them?
