5 Ky. programs receive arts grants

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Actors Theatre of Louisville will receive $80,000 and four other organizations will receive smaller amounts in grants awarded from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Actors Theatre's award is to support the 36th annual Humana Festival of New American Plays.

Appalshop in Whitesburg will receive two grants. One for $20,000 will support the Appalachian Media Institute, a documentary arts film and radio program for high school students. The second grant, for $30,000, proposed on behalf of WMMT-FM, will support a series of after-school programs offering music instruction.

The Louisville Ballet will receive $20,000 to support the acquisition of "Lady of the Camellias." Sarabande Books in Louisville will receive $21,000 to support publication and promotion of literary collections. Yeiser Art Center in Paducah will receive $10,000 to support an artist-in-residence program.
