Some scary moments tonight after a fire breaks out at the lodge of Jenny Wiley State Park. The fire started just after 6:30 pm.
Employees say the fire was in a room next to the front desk. Firemen say it was out quickly, but there's smoke and water damage. Cleanup is underway. Front desk employees say all the sudden the fire alarm went off and after looking around, they saw smoke coming out of a nearby room.
"I did see the flames and before I could get the fire extinguisher, the sprinkler system activated," said Park Manager Scott Ringham.
"When we arrived, we found heavy smoke in the room," said Tim Johnson with the Prestonsburg Fire Department.
Firemen say it only took minutes to put out the fire.
"We were very fortunate. Had it gone through the dry wall, we would have been in big trouble. The sprinkler did an excellent job," Johnson said.
The entire building and all the guest rooms were evacuated for safety. Firemen are still investigating the cause of the fire.
The director says the evacuation is lifted and all the guest are back in their rooms. They plan to clean up all night and say they'll be open for business Sunday.
