"Go Red For Women", Heart Disease Awareness

Heart disease kills more women each year than the next five causes of death combined.
The most scary part, is many women don't even realize they're at risk.
That's why I joined the highlands regional medical center to "go red for women" Tuesday, to raise awareness about heart disease, specifically in Eastern Kentucky.

It killed nearly 20 women every day in Kentucky in 2003...it's the leading cause of death in Kentucky...those facts from the American Heart Association are something Glenda Ousley knows all too well after working in the business for 21 years...yet she nearly waited too long to tell anyone that she was suffering from it herself.

Afraid that it was a false alarm, or simply symptoms of diabetes Glenda waited so long that she had to have an emergency stint...one of her arteries was 90-95 percent blocked.

Glenda is not alone...Dr. Dalati says most of the Eastern Kentucky women who finally come to his office, are often in the same condition as Glenda.
