Bush Shows Loyalty To McConnell By Attending Fund Raiser

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - President Bush will be the top attraction at a campaign fund-raiser this evening for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. The president's appearance will be a show of loyalty to a powerful supporter as the Kentucky Republican gears up for his 2008 run for a fifth Senate term.

McConnell took over this year as the Senate's top Republican leader. He has supported Bush's Iraq policy, and recently led parliamentary maneuvering that blocked a nonbinding resolution opposing the president's troop build-up.

The fund-raiser will be at a hotel in McConnell's hometown. It will also benefit the National Republican Senatorial Committee as the G-O-P prepares for 2008 elections that will determine which party controls the Senate.
