Rapidly Rising Water Causes Houseboats To Break Loose; One Sinks

LONDON, Ky. (AP) - A sudden rise on Lake Cumberland caused 35 houseboats to break loose from a marina, but there were no injuries.

Officials at London Dock Marina say rivers that feed the lake rose rapidly Friday and part of the marina broke loose. One houseboat sank and another overturned. Dock Manager Donnie Ellison says the sunken houseboat has not yet been found. He said some of the boat slips floated up to six miles away.

Ellison said marina workers had recently moved the dock and slips into channels of the Rockcastle and Cumberland Rivers because of low water. The Army Corps of Engineers had recently lowered the water level to ease pressure on the leaking Wolf Creek Dam.
