An Eastern Kentucky police department is one of just five agencies in the entire state to get a top honor.
The governor's Highway Safety Program awarded the Harlan Police Department for its outstanding achievement in traffic safety. The chief of Harlan Police says his department has reduced traffic accidents and fatalities and has helped increase seat belt usage in the city.
"The guys go out and work hard. They do a good job. It's an honor and I'm very proud of them. They're the ones that do it, not me and I'm glad someone's taking notice of that and recognize them for their efforts," said Harlan Police Chief Danny Caudill.
Other departments honored where Winchester Police, Oldham County Police, and Louisville Metro Police. The Pikeville Health Department was also awarded for its efforts. The state will present the awards April 24th at the Kentucky Lifesaver Conference in Louisville.
