Food City Founder Passes Away

The founder of a regional grocery store has passed away.

Jack C. Smith, founder of Food City, died this week at the age of 82 at his Abingdon Virginia home.

Smith opened his first grocery story, a Piggly Wiggly, in 1955. The company grew and in 1984 adopted the name of Food City and today operates 95 supermarkets in the Tri-State area.
