Mistrial Declared In Perry County Trial

An Eastern Kentucky jury couldn't agree on a verdict for a man accused of trying to escape from police custody at least three times.

Perry County Circuit Judge Bill Engle declared a mistrial after the jury deliberated for several hours without reaching a decision in the Rodney Stamper case.

Stamper was charged with escape in December after he left the Hazard ARH while in custody. He was on the run for several days before being caught. Police say he has a history of self mutilation.

A new pre-trial conference has been set for April 19th.
