A church is vandalized for the second time and members say they still can't let children into the nursery because of the broken glass.
Hardy Church of Christ members say they always help anyone who comes in their door, so they are surprised someone chose to hurt them.
“It made me sick. I got a knot in my stomach to think who would do that to a church,” Linda Hatfield said.
Church members say they found a window shattered and the glass covering on their sign broken, and this isn't the first time someone vandalized their property.
Members say just three weeks ago someone broke the windows out of their church bus.
After that, they put up outside lights.
“Evidently that didn't deter them. They came on in anyway,” John Phillips said.
The shattered window was in the nursery.
“Glass was everywhere on the inside,” Phillips said.
“A disaster area, looked like a tornado had blown through the window. The crib bed, full of glass, the toy chest against the wall, full of glass, toys embedded with glass,” Hatfield said.
Members say the nursery was in such bad shape, they're afraid to let children in here now.
The room looks clean now, but they still aren't sure if all the glass is gone.
They also threw away all the crib sheets and toys.
“Because we were afraid we couldn't clean them up enough to keep the children hurt with that glass,” Hatfield said.
Members don't know who vandalized their church and the lights didn't help so now they're considering installing security cameras.
A measure they never thought they would need at church.
The Pike County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
