From the outside at Wayne County High School it looked like any other instructional day Thursday. But inside teachers say the lessons learned were reminders of mortality.
“For a day it seems to bring back that idea. That today could be our last. They're very somber," said English Teacher Shane Shoemaker.
That attitude is here because many learned Thursday morning that one of the school's 700 some students won't be coming back. Senja Poor, a 16 year old junior, died Wednesday after an accident on highway 1275 Tuesday.
“You know there's going to be kids who want to stare at the wall and today you can let them do that,” said Shoemaker who described Senja as a quiet, but hard working student.
Senja's parents visited a local funeral home to make arrangements Thursday afternoon. What makes everything even more tragic is that it's the same trip her parents made 4 years ago for their son's funeral.
Senja's brother Justin also died in a car accident at about the same age as his sister.. Now Senja's parents are without both of their children. Students are hoping to help the family in some way. A donation box was set up in the front office.
