Sheriff Arraigned On Sex Crimes

Sneedville, Hancock County - The Claiborne County Sheriff indicted on sex crimes was arraigned in court this morning.

Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray entered a plea of not guilty this morning to all charges stemming from an alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl last year here in Hancock County.

Ray faces one count of statutory rape, one count of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. Hancock County Judge John Dugger issued a gag order for the state defense and any other parties involved to ensure a fair trial.

Ray's trial is set for August first. Sheriff Ray has been out on bond and on the job since February.

The judge reminded Ray that he's to have no direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim.
