Highway District 12 has closed Town Mountain Road (KY 1426) from Town and Country Shopping Center to Skyline Liquors on the south side and from the Buckley's Creek Intersection to Ratliff's Creek on the north side. Motorists will still be able to get in and out of Ratliff's Creek, but will only be able to turn left toward new US 119. Motorists will still be able to get to the medical buildings, the Log Cabin, and even as far as Dr. Fred Lawson's office, but they will not be allowed to go through to new US 119. They will have to turn around and return the way they came.
"There is a major rockfall just across the road from Howard Lockhart's home," explained Joe Stanley, Pike County Maintenance Engineer. "The road will be closed all weekend except to local traffic, and there will be long delays for local traffic. Local traffic means that the Lockharts will be allowed in and out of their home, but no one will be able to get into the area because the road is completely blocked.
Stanley said state highway maintenance workers are already on the scene and will "stay until the rock and debris are cleared and there is no further danger to motorists." He said it could take several hours, it could take all weekend.
"We want to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding. Drive safely out there and avoid this section of road if at all possible."
