For one Eastern Kentucky hospital, it's a multi-million dollar facelift.
The expansion includes some major improvements, including more space for patient rooms.
The 11-Million Dollar project includes a renovation to ICU isolation rooms and updated nursing stations, among other things.
Officials with ARHsay this project was in the works for quite some time and they are excited to get construction underway.
The C.E.O. for all ARH hospitals, Jerry Haynes, says this expansion will bring state of the art equipment to help care for patients at the Whitesburg facility.
“Quality care is our highest priority and this new wing will provide us additional capacity and technologies to help us provide improved quality care here,” Haynes says.
The groundbreaking ceremony will give the hospital 15,000 square feet of additional space.
“It’s a project that will provide us private rooms in the hospital, complete renovation of our O.B. nursery areas and our ICU department as well,” Haynes says.
“The expansion project at Whitesburg ARH should take about 18 months to complete. Haynes says the addition will increase the private patient rooms from 17 to 44.
“Private rooms are what patients today are asking for and really demanding and this project will help meet that need,” Haynes says.
“When you look at healthcare these days, no one wants to be sick with a roommate,” Community C.E.O. for Whitesburg ARH, Dena Sparkman says. “So as we look at upgrading our facility, the only way to really do that is for more space, is to have an expansion to the facility.”
And officials hope the expansion will help offer better care to people living in Southeastern Kentucky.
