FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Ernie Fletcher has directed university presidents to submit their campus emergency response plans to the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet for review.
Fletcher wants to make sure the universities have means of communicating with students, faculty and staff in emergencies. The order follows the massacre at Virginia Tech earlier this week.
In a statement Thursday, Fletcher said it was reassuring to hear that universities have already taken steps to protect students.
"It is important that we take these plans, discuss them as a group and put in place the most thorough plans possible to use in response to emergency situations," Fletcher said.
