A popular television show continues to generate controversy even when trying to improve literacy among children.
Wednesday night's American Idol featured students at Beckam Bates Elementary School in Letcher County. Idol teamed up with the Save The Children campaign to award money and improve literacy but many in the region, including Governor Fletcher, say they were upset by negative stereotypes on the show.
"Saw on the show last night, and I was very disappointed on the implications of what was on American Idol last night," Fletcher said.
Others in the region disagree with the Governor's statements saying people are overlooking what the show was about, which is helping those less fortunate.
