PIKE COUNTY—Kentucky Route 632 at Phelps is now open to traffic, both lanes.
“It didn’t take the railroad nearly as long as they thought it would,” said Sara George, Information Officer for Highway District 12. “The railroad folks got in there and removed the remains of the trestle, got the D-10 dozer out, and moved the low-boy trailer. Our Phelps Maintenance Crew swept the road and washed it down and it is now open to traffic.”
Norfolk Southern did an excellent job, George pointed out, considering the massive amount that had to be moved. Yesterday at about 3 o’clock in the afternoon a low-boy trailer carrying a D-10 bulldozer clipped the overhead railroad trestle as it tried to drive under it. The trestle collapsed on top of the low boy and the dozer.
