It's held only once a year and raises enough money to completely fund activities and services at one area senior citizens center and it's flooding the airwaves.
In its 36th year, the WSGS Senior Citizen's Radio Day collects pledges and donations for the senior’s center over the WSGS airwaves. Officials say local businesses and individuals donated more than $60,000 this year.
"Hazard, Perry County is so good to us. They provide us with enough money to run the program for an entire year. Without wonderful people here in the mountains, we couldn't run our program," said Harold "Rocky" Hudson.
A special individual donation award in honor of Vernon Cooper was also given Wednesday. Cooper helped host the event, and died earlier this year.
