FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Ernie Fletcher released his state and
federal income tax returns on Thursday, showing a gross income last
year of $124,118.
Of that, $119,703 was his salary as governor. The remainder was
Fletcher has released his income tax statements each year since
he became governor.
"He feels it's important for the voters to see where his income
is coming from, and it shows the openness he has regarding his
personal finances," said Marty Ryall, manager of Fletcher's
re-election campaign. "We encourage the other candidates to
release theirs as well."
Fletcher claimed $40,426 in itemized deductions on his federal
return, reducing his taxable income to $77,092.
Fletcher and his wife, Glenna, filed joint returns, which shows
they gave $1,847 worth of clothing and kitchen items to Goodwill
and Cedar Lake Lodge.
They also reported spending $1,739 on medications, $1,728 on
doctors and dentists and $1,235 for hospital stays. The governor
spent nearly three weeks in the hospital early last year because of
complications from gallbladder surgery and because of a blood clot.
