Pikeville's Bypass Road To Open Earlier Than Expected

PIKEVILLE - State highway maintenance specialists will have Bypass Road in Pikeville open sooner than expected.

"We removed the precarious rock face yesterday (Wednesday)," said Joe Stanley, Maintenance Engineer for Pike County. "We are now removing the ramp that we had to build to get a long-boom excavator up to the dangerous portion of the hillside. Tomorrow morning (Friday) we will sweep and clean the road and expect to have through traffic running again by early afternoon."

Stanley praised the Canada and Shelby Maintenance crews, under the direction of Superintendent Tim Carter. "We probably completed this work in about half the time we thought it would take. The men worked 16-hour shifts and they worked safely, quickly, and efficiently. We know how inconvenient it is to have a heavily traveled road closed and I think everyone involved wanted just challenged themselves to work as hard as they could without compromising safety standards."
