Some Harlan County Residents Upset Over Sewage Problems

Residents in one Eastern Kentucky town say there's sewage flowing in the streets.

Residents in the Sunshine community are complaining to Harlan City officials who extended sewer service to 300 homes last year, but city officials say many homes are still using failing septic systems and straight pipes.

Harlan's mayor says the health department will now be identifying which residents have not hooked on to the new sewer lines in an effort to fix the problem.
