How You Can Make Every Gallon Of Gas Count

They've gone well above three dollars a gallon in much of eastern Kentucky and of course we're talking about gas prices.

They spiked again this week and chances are you're paying more.

“WYMT found gas prices still as low as 2.84 in one spot in eastern Kentucky and that was at the Spur Oil Station… you may know it as the big chicken in Barbourville.

We also found prices as high as 3.19 here at the Middlesboro Kroger.

Experts say it pays to shop around, but no matter where you go you're going to pay about 3 dollars a gallon.

So if you're stuck paying it they say you might as well get the most out of that tank of gas.

“A man has to go without something to eat to fill his car up to back and forth to work,” Edward Daniels said.

Gas is getting more expensive so experts say every little bit you can conserve helps.

They say you can start by watching the way you drive.

“If you accelerate quickly and decelerate quickly you're just wasting fuel,” Jan-Michael Lambdin said.

AAA officials suggest if you stick to speed limits you'll get the most out of your gas.

They also say plan your trips and try to consolidate your errands into one trip and even try to carpool if you can.

But while you still have the car there are things you can do to it to conserve gas.

Mechanics say number one keep tires inflated because low tires make your car work harder and consume more gas.

They also say with every oil change to get your air filter checked.

“If you're getting less air to the engine same fuel, but less power so you're wasting fuel there too,” Jan-Michael Lambdin said.

It might sound like common sense, but Triple A urges motorists to shop around.

One thing they told WYMT was that many people like to stick with a certain brand.

They say don't worry about that because your buying pretty much the same fuel everywhere you go so simply shop around and try to get the lowest price you can find.
