Prestonsburg students, teachers, and other community members have been walking around the track almost all day to raise money for cancer research.
The walk started at eight Monday morning and will wrap up at eight tonight. A teacher got the idea for the event after she lost her husband to cancer last year. She says most people participating have also lost a loved one to cancer. The students spent the last week collecting money. They hope to raise at least one thousand dollars for the Floyd County Relay for Life.
"I've had these students who say, "Ms. Ford, this is such a wonderful thing you do," because cancer strikes every family. It doesn't matter if doesn't know any barriers, young, old, rich, poor, it doesn't matter," said Event Organizer Carolyn Ford.
She says two students participating just lost their aunt to cancer a few days ago. The Prestonsburg head lunchroom worker also just died from cancer last week.
