Napier Concedes In Treasurer's Race

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - One day after a statewide recanvassing, state Rep. Lonnie Napier conceded defeat in the race for Republican nomination in the treasurer's race.

"You can't win them all," Napier said Friday afternoon.

The recanvassing of Republican votes in last week's primary election showed Melinda Wheeler still had a sizable lead over Napier.

Wheeler, former head of the Kentucky court system's administrative arm, had 54,612 votes while Napier had 53,505 votes.

Napier had asked for a recanvass - in which local election officials across the state essentially check their math - following last week's GOP primary.

Brett Hall, Wheeler's campaign manager, said she was pleased that Napier conceded.
