Two arrests are made after a string of robberies from Eastern Kentucky into Virginia.
The arrests were made Friday in Pike County. Police say 33 year old Craig Steffey of Mouthcard and 31 year old Tina Hager of Fort Wayne, Indiana are behind the crimes.
He's a 79 year old man and his store, well 2 people have already attempted to rob it this year alone. So when police say Craig Steffey allegedly came in to Jack Hurley's grocery store in stopover Thursday evening, Hurley handled it like most 79 year olds would.
"He tried to get my gate down. I just said I'll blow your hide end off. He said, don't shoot, I'm leaving," Hurley said.
Police say Hurley's store was Steffey's fourth attempted robbery since Tuesday evening. The first three, at a Shelbiana gas station, a shop at Breaks Interstate Park, and a Virginia Grocery were all robbed. Hurley says he was ready with a gun in his pocket.
"You hear the news, robberies going on. I'm ready for them, if they want to play the game, i'll play it with them," Hurley said.
But it was ultimately a Friday morning phone call to Steffey's whereabouts that led state police and the Pike and Buchanan County Sheriff's Departments to the two suspects.
"I think it is a pretty huge arrest. Like you said four robberies in three days committed by same person and you've got three agencies, two in state and one out state all working together," said Tolbert Ratliff with the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
The Pike County Sheriff's Department says they also found pills and drug paraphernalia on Craig Steffey and that Tina Hager was already wanted in Pike County and Indiana.
