One Man Dead Following A Hit And Run Accident

An Eastern Kentucky man is dead and police say another could be responsible for his death because of a hit and run accident.

State police say 52 year old Cecil Curtis was riding his motorcycle down Kentucky Route 172 in the Flat Gap area of Johnson County when his bike was struck by a car.

It all happened Saturday night about 6:00 pm. Officials say Dale Wells Junior was traveling east on 172 and crossed onto the wrong side of the road striking Curtis.

Wells is now being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

"Dale Wells is in custody here, he's an inmate here presently. He's charged with leaving the scene of an accident and murder," said Deputy Tony Allen with the detention center.

Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene by the Johnson County coroner.

The case is still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police in Pikeville.
