Black bear sightings are increasing across Eastern Kentucky.
Thanks to an early freeze that killed a lot of what bears eat, they seem to be venturing closer and closer to many people's homes. One visited a Middlesboro neighborhood Thursday. Residents helped police chase it away. The bear had gone through some garbage.
"It had gone in, torn it open and was eating it as casually as picnic in the park," said Dirk Wiley with the Cumberland Gap National Park.
Experts say if you live near wooded areas, it's best to keep garbage inside until right before it's picked up so bears don't come after it.
