A Perry County teenager is found shot to death.

It happened around three this afternoon in the viper community.

State police are calling it an accident and a tragic situation.

The Perry county coroner says 13-year-old Austin Moore died a little after three o'clock Wednesday afternoon.

He was found by a family member behind their home.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates that this is an accidental shooting that an accidental discharge from a weapon that the 13-year-old had on his person,” Tony Watts of KSP Hazard says.

“It was very shocking someone so young and to happen around in this community its wake up call for us all,” family friend Celesta Cody says.

Friends of the family say Moore was very outgoing.

“He loved to hunt and fish and around here that's really all there is to do,” Cody says.

“He was very funny,” Brooke Bates says. “He was really a fun person to be around.”

Watts says the family is having a tough time.

“It's a very bad and unfortunate incident,” Watts says.

“I really do feel for the family and my prayers will be going out to them and I hope they get through this,” Bates says.

Police say no foul play is suspected.

We're told Moore attended A.B. Combs Elementary.

His body will be taken to Frankfort for an autopsy tomorrow.
