It's summer, the time of year people start heading to lakes and parks, but state officials say you should be careful.
Boater Donnie Farmer says he spends most weekends at Buckhorn Lake in Perry County. He also says safety is something everyone should consider.
"The safety rules are in place for a reason. Most of them are written by blood," Farmer said.
State officials say there are a few things you should remember when on the water this summer. You should always wear a life jacket, don't drink alcoholic beverages, always be ready in case something happens with extra supplies, and always tell others where you're going.
