She's accused of stealing $17,000 from a Southeastern Kentucky VFW Charity. The Harlan County woman was also the treasurer for that VFW's Ladies Auxiliary.
State officials confirm Julie Weedman from Evarts in Harlan County is out of the Bell County Jail on one thousand dollars bond, but she faces nearly one hundred felony charges.
Workers at the bingo hall where state officials say the lady's auxiliary raises money would not go on camera, but say they donate over fifty thousand dollars a year to groups like a fire department, an ROTC, and local schools. State officials say Julie Weedman forged the signature of the charity's president on checks and then cashed them. VFW workers say Weedman stole the money to feed a gambling problem but she's trying to pay the money back. The thirty-six year old Weedman faces more than fifty counts of felony second degree forgery and over forty counts of felony diversion of charitable gaming funds.
Weedman is scheduled to be arraigned in Bell County District Court on August 24th.
