New Fire Truck Delivered To Leslie County

A brand new fire truck is delivered to Leslie County. It's only the second one in the county's history.

The six volunteer fire departments in Leslie County rely on used trucks and equipment for fire and rescue operations but Thursday, the first brand new fire truck since 1978 was delivered to the Thousandsticks Volunteer Fire Department.

"It's more than a tanker, it's also a pumper and of course in this area here, due to lack of fire hydrants in the Thousandsticks area, we actually have none, so water is the name of the game," said Fire Chief John Newell.

"It's going to last longer. It's going to get better service, we're just tickled to death with it," said Leslie County Judge Executive Jimmy Sizmore.

Fire officials say Assistant Chief Kevin Cook and Volunteer Frankie Baker applied for the truck through a private grant. They say the new tanker truck has a better engine and better equipment than they even asked for.
