He's accused of having sex with a nine year old child and now a mayor is asking him to step down as a city councilman.
He is 81 year old Guy Howard, a city council member in the Loyall community of Harlan County.
We talked with Loyall's mayor, Clarence Longworth, and while he says the Loyall City Council has no plans to remove Guy Howard, he says he thinks it would be in the best interest of the city right now if he resigned.
Guy Howard pleaded not guilty to first degree sodomy in Harlan Circuit Court Thursday. A grand jury indicted him on that Class B felony offense back in May. The indictment charges that Howard engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with a nine year old in September 2005.
People in Loyall are reacting to what Howard is being charged with.
"I find it's very disturbing when someone's in office and working with our children," said Carolyn Duncan.
Now again, Guy Howard has pleaded not guilty to the sodomy charge. He actually turned himself in to police a few days after he was indicted but is now out of jail on bond.
Loyall's mayor says Howard hasn't shown up to city council meetings since he was indicted and again he's calling for his resignation.
We reached Guy Howard at home by phone and he said quote "It's probably best I don't say anything right now."
Howard is due back in court November 1st for a pretrial conference.
