Colon Cancer Awareness Day

Friday was Colon Cancer Awareness Day, so to draw attention, a giant, "walk-through" colon, was set up in the Pikeville City Park.

The inflatable colon shows everything that can happen to your colon from polyps to Crohns Disease to cancer.

Pike County Health Department workers were on hand to answer questions and sign people up for screenings.

“That's our main objective is to increase the amount of screenings cause early detection, it can be cured the easiest of all the cancers,” Paul Hopkins said.

Health officials say if colon cancer is not caught early, it can be untreatable.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of all cancer deaths in our region.
